Chapter 10

“Should we conquer another item on your list before I have to go to work?” Connie asked Gianna after they got in the car. “I still have a few hours before I have to relieve Kelly.”

“Are you kidding?” Gianna asked. “We might have just figured out by process of elimination that Erin is the killer. There’s no way I’ll be able to wait until tomorrow to talk to her.”

Jo let out a chuckle. “I never thought I’d see the day where Gianna wants to solve a case and Connie is voting for more wedding planning.”

Connie smiled. She was glad that her sister was getting into this case. “See, it’s addictive.”

Jo smiled at her daughters. “I have to admit, I’m curious to hear what Erin has to say, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s go out to lunch and celebrate the dress. That was a huge accomplishment.”

“Mom’s right,” Connie said. “Besides, we need a reason to stop by Best Buds again, and we need to figure out how we’re we going to prove that she’s guilty. A little sustenance might give us some ideas.”

They decided on Gallagher’s Tropical Shack for lunch. Connie smiled as she pointed out the table where Zach had proposed just one month before and recounted the story to her mother and sister. One more time.

They each ordered a glass of champagne with their sandwiches and toasted the dress. After one sip, Connie divided the rest of hers between her mother’s and her sister’s glass. “It was a lovely toast, but champagne makes my head foggy. Let’s figure out how we’re going to prove that Erin is the killer.”

“I say we just confront her,” Jo said.

“That could be dangerous,” Gianna said. “If she killed once, who’s to say she wouldn’t kill again?”

“Gi’s right. We don’t want to put ourselves into a dangerous situation.”

“Maybe you should just talk to Zach and tell him what we know,” Gianna suggested.

“That’s just it. There’s nothing I could tell him that would be news to him. I’m sure he knows that all the other suspects either have an alibi or no motive.”

The police might have arrived at the same conclusions we have. Maybe they know Erin is the killer, and now they are just trying to prove it,” Jo said.

“In that case, wouldn’t it be better to just give the police the time and space to do that?” Gianna asked.

“We could,” Jo said. “Or we could stop by Best Buds and fish for information. Maybe we can get Erin to say something to incriminate herself.”

“Actually, that’s genius,” Connie said. “Let’s try get her to reveal a piece of information that only the killer would know.”

“Like what?” Gianna asked.

“What about Flo’s clothes?” Jo asked. “Besides the police and us, only the killer and the other volunteers who saw Flo that day would know what she was wearing.”

Connie reflected for a moment. “Not necessarily. All the volunteers wear those hunter green polos with the Sapphire Beach Botanical Garden logo in the corner.”

“They wouldn’t know she was wearing dark blue jeans and work boots, though,” Jo said.
